Pregnancy Massage

Congratulations.   Pregnancy brings feelings of excitement, joy and fulfilment.
And while it can be a romantic and blissful time, mums-to-be may also
experience some emotional upheaval, anxiety and physical discomfort through
each trimester. That’s normal.

After all, your hormonal balance is changing noticeably. So is your body shape,
gait and energy levels. There may be some nausea. Sleep (glorious sleep!) may
be interrupted by extra trips to the ‘loo. Some days will be better than others.
Then there's family, friends and work to consider. Pregnancy is a wonderful time
but it does have its stresses.

As the pregnancy progresses, your joints loosen and your centre of gravity shifts forward.
This often results in pain in the lower back and pelvis. Your upper back and shoulders may
become tense and sore as you compensate to remain upright. Massage will lessen all
these physical discomforts considerably.

There are also many benefits in continuing your massage post-natal.
Massage will relieve the strain in your shoulders and neck that comes
from long hours of nursing your baby. It will gently help realign the pelvis
and spine, can diminish post-natal depression and promote the early
recovery of the affected muscles and skin.

Pregnancy massage is not an indulgence: it is a safe, practical and effective way to minimise
some of the less pleasant side-effects of pregnancy -- both for you and those around you.
It nurtures you and through you, your baby.

Make an appointment today. Our qualified and experienced therapists will take good care of
you both.

Maternity Reflexology

Maternity Reflexology is one of the safest, most supportive complementary therapies for mother and growing baby and is now employed by an ever-growing number of midwives both here and overseas.

According to Drs Gowri Motha and Jane McGrath ("The Effects of Reflexology on Labour Outcome." London, 1989), women who receive regular reflexology sessions throughout their pregnancy are more likely to have shorter labours, less intervention and better birth outcomes.

Reflexology can help with some of the following effects that are so common during pregnancy:

Safe pregnancy massage
You can begin treatments at any time but are they're especially useful in the latter stages of pregnancy. Overdue dates and stalled labour can be anxious times. By relaxing and stimulating certain reflexes on both hands and feet, labour often starts and continues naturally.

Postnatally, Reflexology is helpful in many ways and can help with breastfeeding by encouraging good flow and helping with engorgement and mastitis.

It is particularly helpful with post natal depression and can be beneficial in dealing with fatigue, stress and anxiety. Treatments can combine both Remedial Massage and Maternity Reflexology which is a powerful combination that both nurtures and restores balance.
