What To Expect During Your Treatment
Treatments generally take 60 minutes and are conducted on a normal massage treatment table. Your therapist will take note of your medical history and your current concerns then discuss a treatment plan that includes the use of acupuncture.
The acupuncture needles will be applied to the target soft tissue (skin, fascia or muscle) to initiate a healing response. The therapist may gently manipulate some needles - a light tap or a twist - to enhance their effect. There is minimal discomfort, if any.
The therapist may leave the room for short periods to allow your body to rest and to integrate its responses to the treatment sequence.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique that introduces very fine single-use
sterile needles into specific points in the body to initiate a physiological
response.
Traditionally, acupuncture was practised as a stand-alone treatment but
these days it is usually used in conjunction with other therapies to produce
a better overall treatment outcome.
How it works has been the subject of much research over many years. While the Eastern philosophy behind acupuncture has no direct counterpart in Western medicine, modern research has noted, among other things, the positive effects of the needle on the body's immune response and the subsequent manipulation of the needle on the body's connective tissue (fascia).
Benefits
As a natural form of healing, acupuncture provides drug-free pain relief, assists in the prevention of disease and illness and maintains general wellbeing.
It has proven effective in the treatment of a wide range of acute and chronic ailments including neurological conditions such as headaches, migraines and sleeping disorders, many respiratory and digestive conditions, sporting injuries, psychological conditions such as depression, phobias, anxiety and addictions such as smoking.
The benefits of acupuncture have been particularly dramatic in cases where conventional treatments, over time, have provided diminishing results.
